More than 50 developers from all over the world.

I’m just recovering from our latest developer meeting this past weekend — August 16th to the 19th at the Technical University of Berlin. More than 50 developer from all over the world attended, our largest attendance yet. We managed again to keep a healthy ratio of 50% ownCloud employees and 50% community volunteers.

Major work was done in several areas:

  • Quality. The developers worked on more automated testing and we fixed a lot of open bugs.
  • Performance. This will be a focus for the future. A group of developers did serious profiling and optimization. ownCloud will keep getting faster.
  • Cool new features for ownCloud 6 (more on that later).
  • Better integration between Desktop, Mobile and Server.

Some contributors could not wait for the meeting to start and met in the c-base in Berlin, one of the most famous hackerspace in the world, a few days earlier to work.

The ownCloud contributors interact every day over the internet, but you only gain true perspective of the intensity, passion, energy, joy and genius of our community during these dev meetings. It’s awesome to see such a huge and passionate community that shares the same goals to work on ownCloud.

On Saturday evening we did a big group dinner sponsored by ownCloud Inc. We picked a traditional German restaurant to introduce the developers from overseas to German Sauerkraut and Sausages. — oh, and German beer.

As an aside, the contest to close most bug reports was won by Jan-Christoph Borchardt, who got a Nexus 7 as prize.

Thanks again guys for all the help — and the memories — here are some pictures of the fun and see you in six months!
