Interested in an ownCloud deployment, but have a few lingering questions? ownCloud has just published a list of frequently asked questions that have been answered for your benefit. Here are a few of the top questions we receive frequently and that may also be on your mind.

What are the differences between the Community Edition and the Enterprise Edition?

The ownCloud Enterprise Edition builds on ownCloud Server and adds a range of Enterprise Apps specifically developed for professional needs and environments including integrations such as SharePoint, Windows network drives, Amazon S3 and more. It also includes support, branding and mobile apps.

Is it possible to brand ownCloud with my Corporate Design?

Yes, ownCloud offers a Branding option with the Enterprise or Custom Subscription. This also includes Mobile Apps, Desktop Apps and the Web Interface. The Enterprise Subscription allows you to brand ownCloud with ownBrander, our self-service branding tool. A branding subscription is also available at additional cost if you prefer that ownCloud complete the branding on your behalf.

Can I put ownCloud all on one server?

Yes, however, this is not best practice.  If you are looking to scale ownCloud beyond a handful of users, and are looking for the best performance, you want to consider separating the three tiers of the application (Web, Database, Storage).  If this is not an option, making sure you are able to separate the disk IO by using different physical volumes for each is a smaller scale alternative.

What Encryption methods are used and what data is encrypted?

We use openSSL AES 256 bit encryption to encrypt any data that resides in the ownCloud default storage.  For additional information on ownCloud security, please read our technical whitepaper at https://owncloud.com/whitepapers

What is Federated Cloud Sharing?

With Federated Cloud, users on one ownCloud installation can collaborate with users on other ownCloud installations while each server maintains its respective security and governance protocols. Files shared between users are no longer confined to a single shared folder or ownCloud instance; users can access the latest file versions and selectively sync the most critical shared files.

These answers should provide you with the confidence you need to move forward with deploying your ownCloud. For a full list of question and answers please refer to our brand new FAQ page.
