Lexington, MA – April 30, 2014ownCloud, Inc., the company behind the world’s most popular open source file sync and share software, announced today the addition of Craig Morrissey as VP of Engineering, responsible for managing the day-to-day development of ownCloud Enterprise Edition.

With more than 1.3 million users worldwide, ownCloud offers the ease-of-use, flexibility, sophistication, privacy and security unmatched by consumer-grade apps. ownCloud installs easily on a web server, enabling organizations to host their own file sync and share, using their own storage (or cloud storage they choose), and protected by all the investments they’ve already made in security, management, tracking, governance and more.

Morrissey, of Wellesley, MA., was most recently director of Engineering at Sonian Inc., which provides SaaS archiving using advanced cloud computing technologies, where he led a 15-person geographically distributed development team consisting of front-end, back-end and search engineers. Prior to Sonian, he was the co-founder and CTO of Proactively Green and held VP of Engineering roles at Choicestream and eRoom Technology (acquired by EMC/Documentum).

“ownCloud is in one of the hottest spaces in the tech industry as organizations begin to get control back of their sensitive data from consumer-grade apps,” said Morrissey. “I look forward to giving IT managers back their peace of mind.”

Morrissey, who has three patents covering innovations at eRoom Technology, will report to ownCloud CTO and co-founder Frank Karlitschek. He has an MBA from Babson College and a BSEE from Cornell University.

“Craig comes to ownCloud at a time of explosive growth,” said Karlitschek. “His experience with enterprise and SaaS products will help guide our team to ensure our enterprise customers can easily and cost-effectively control their data.”
