Well, actually CloudOpen – co-located with LinuxCon. I’ll be speaking at 11:20PT on Thursday, August 30th on ownCloud — The advantages of storing data in the cloud are many: ubiquitous access to data from multiple devices, social interaction and sharing with others on the web and no extra software to install.
ownCloud is the first and most ubiquitous OSS solution to run on the server or computer of the user or on an internal company server — giving the user the benefits of cloud computing and control of the data. ownCloud integrates with desktop applications so that the users has cloud features combined with the security and the good cost structure of in house file servers.
ownCloud is a very active open source project which was founded in 2010 and has seen enormous growth since then.  The main features are syncing and sharing of file, encryption, calendar and contacts syncing, media player, photo gallery and more.

ownCloud Sprint Review: Tiles view in Infinite Scale, Scoped Storage and more

Over the last two weeks, developers at ownCloud worked towards substantially improving the platform, and also fixed existing bugs. Among these, the most significant improvement is the support for a tiles view in ownCloud Infinite Scale. Furthermore, the new clients for Android and Apple devices now come equipped with interesting features. What’s more, Infinite Scale will now receive user notifications in the web UI and an automatic server detection. An event log and history service with notifications are in the development stage.
