The IRS has\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.irs.gov\/uac\/Newsroom\/IRS-Statement-on-the-Get-Transcript-Application\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a>\u00a0that the \u201ccriminals used taxpayer-specific data acquired from non-IRS sources to gain unauthorized access to information on approximately 100,000 tax accounts through IRS\u2019 \u2018Get Transcript\u2019 application.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Whether it was the fault of the IRS or the fault of a third party application, the point is, do you really know where your data is?\u00a0 Who really has access to your personal information? The world today is full of online pirates looking to plunder your personal information, a means to an end to reaching the real treasure.<\/p>\n<p>According to Sean Michael Kerners\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eweek.com\/security\/cost-of-a-data-breach-continues-to-rise.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">article<\/a>\u00a0on eWeek, the cost of data breaches is on the rise. Kerner states that \u201cAs data breaches continue to grow in number globally, so too are the associated costs. The Ponemon Institute\u2019s 2015 Cost of Data Breach Study, sponsored by IBM, reports that the average total cost for a data breach now stands at $3.8 million. On a per record basis, the report found that the average cost for each stolen record has risen by 6 percent in the last year from $145 in the 2014 study up to $154 in the new 2015 study.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Is the cost worth it when you can use ownCloud to have complete control of your data?
