{"id":74895,"date":"2023-02-15T14:48:00","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T14:48:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/owncloud.com\/?p=74895"},"modified":"2023-02-15T14:48:00","modified_gmt":"2023-02-15T14:48:00","slug":"owncloud-sprint-review-tiles-view-in-infinite-scale-scoped-storage-and-more","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/owncloud.com\/de\/blogs\/owncloud-sprint-review-tiles-view-in-infinite-scale-scoped-storage-and-more\/","title":{"rendered":"ownCloud Sprint Review: Tiles view in Infinite Scale, Scoped Storage and more"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"78bfee21-e21e-406a-a1d6-63cbc5d80f66\">The tiles view in Infinite Scale offers several features, including a\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"78bfee21-e21e-406a-a1d6-63cbc5d80f66\">selection model, tolerant check boxes, shrinking images, plus Actions, Quick and Main menus and a resizable view.<\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"5ad773da-7322-4520-923b-a70ab5be651e\">Another new feature in ownCloud web was requested by the community is the\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"5ad773da-7322-4520-923b-a70ab5be651e\">status widget now also shows the average upload speed.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The performance of the ownCloud Infinite Scale web interface has been significantly improved by modifications to how it uses the HTTP PROPFIND method.\u00a0Infinite Scale\u00a0<span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"59ef8f1b-9cfb-4df9-9438-5e6692af5c49\">now obtains rendering information for the file list faster<\/span>, which in turn makes the display much more efficient. The\u00a0amount of requests has been reduced by as much as 50%, which has lightened the workload of the server\u00a0and ensured that its\u00a0response is lighter and faster, even in instances of high volumes of shares.<\/p>\n<p>ownCloud Infinite Scale will soon provide\u00a0<span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"296744f8-3240-47db-8b8a-a0f3f884d3c4\">a<\/span>\u00a0user event log and a Space history. The first draft of the architecture for &#8222;History and Notifications&#8220; has already been completed. The\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/webfinger.net\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Webfinger<\/a>\u00a0protocol is specified in\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.rfc-editor.org\/rfc\/rfc7033\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">RFC7033<\/a>\u00a0and is supposed to help find servers and services. By simply raising an unauthenticated request, a client can find out, for example, the correct identity provider for his Open ID profile. By doing so, users will also be able to ask for the ownCloud instances that they have access to.<\/p>\n<p>Apart from that, the developers also added an\u00a0expiration feature for the trash bin, which permits\u00a0to purge files from the disk after a predefined expiration time, helping in housekeeping. This is implemented also for Spaces.\u00a0The general administration view now displays additional information for the user, including\u00a0server information that previously used to be available only in the console. In addition to that, administrators can now customize the branding for all clients by uploading a custom logo.<\/p>\n<h2 id=\"SprintReview230210-AndroidClientnowsupportsScopedStorageandDocumentProvider\">Android Client now supports Scoped Storage and Document Provider<\/h2>\n<p>The Android team has been working on the stable version oc-android-3.0.2 and on the upcoming release of 3.0.3.\u00a0Spaces now supports\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.androidcentral.com\/what-scoped-storage\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Scoped Storage<\/a>, the\u00a0<a class=\"external-link\" href=\"https:\/\/developer.android.com\/reference\/android\/provider\/DocumentsProvider\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Documents Provider<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0&#8222;Open With&#8220; and &#8222;Send File&#8220;\u00a0 actions.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_74908\" style=\"width: 1034px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-74908\" class=\"wp-image-74908 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/owncloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot_20230214_142824-1024x705.jpg\" alt=\"Spaces on Android\" width=\"1024\" height=\"705\" srcset=\"https:\/\/owncloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot_20230214_142824-980x675.jpg 980w, https:\/\/owncloud.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/Screenshot_20230214_142824-480x330.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-74908\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Figure 2: Spaces now also supports Android&#8217;s Scoped Storages and the Document provider.<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Improvements for iOS clients include navigation improvements and\u00a0persistable browser location. The sidebar selection is now in sync with navigation,\u00a0lightweight history results in memory\/CPU savings and users can now benefit from State Restore and open files in new windows (on iPads).<\/p>\n<p>The desktop client&#8217;s upcoming version 3.2.0\u00a0<span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"a3c65f12-6878-4553-afbe-ad91ef41da5f\">is likely\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"inline-comment-marker\" data-ref=\"a3c65f12-6878-4553-afbe-ad91ef41da5f\">the last 3.x release<\/span>, while the team continues to work\u00a0on version 4.0.0. In the last two weeks, there&#8217;s mostly been non-visible bugfixes and deployment changes, but the key new feature for OSX clients are the\u00a0Mac M1 binaries (as a preview feature).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Over the last two weeks, developers at ownCloud worked towards substantially improving the platform, and also fixed existing bugs. Among these, the most significant improvement is the support for a tiles view in ownCloud Infinite Scale. Furthermore, the new clients for Android and Apple devices now come equipped with interesting features. What&#8217;s more, Infinite Scale will now receive user notifications in the web UI and an automatic server detection.
