When people hear the word “hybrid” there are generally two ways people think about the cloud portion of the hybrid model. The first is that people are looking at hybrid storage options, very often for backup or capacity reasons, such as Amazon s3. The other option is typically the balance of workloads in and across clouds, sometimes for capacity (cloud bursting) or disaster recovery reasons. For enterprise file sync and share, it typically comes down to the control plane and storage – where does the control plane run, and where are your files stored. Regardless of which cloud, hybrid, or on site combination you choose, ownCloud can help!
By now I’m sure that most of you have heard that ownCloud is offering a hybrid model which can answer the above questions. And this could not come at a more perfect time. With recent rulings around Safe Harbor from the EU, continued data privacy efforts from Canada and Israel, the trend toward security and accountability is growing. But our new hybrid cloud model enables the easy collaboration our users demand with the choice, security and control IT administrators need. Unlike most of the other hybrid models that leave the control plane in the public cloud, ownCloud’s new hybrid model lets IT administrators manage the control plane, including encryption keys, on-premise and use whatever storage they want, no matter where it resides.
Join our upcoming webinar, “Hybrid EFSS with an On-Premise Control Plane” on Tuesday, November 10th, to learn more about how ownCloud can help your company be hybrid, as well as some of the other new features of the upcoming ownCloud 8.2.
