Datto is a vendor that offers data backup, recovery and business continuity solutions. The company claims some five million customers with 8,000 partners worldwide. For its part, ownCloud offers an open source file synchronization and sharing solution (think an open source Microsoft OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox or Box that users can run anywhere). ownCloud has two million users worldwide with an estimated 2,000,000 GB of data stored using its technology.

Put the two together and you have what Datto hopes will be an increasingly compelling offering for customers. The two vendors are announcing that Datto is adding ownCloud’s products to its SIRIS product line, thereby giving existing Datto customers the ability to both manage content sharing, and secure the sharing of that content, from an integrated platform. Instead of liking what Datto does and having to apply it to a third party file-sharing solution, Datto customers will have the ability to integrate file sharing into their existing systems and tools.
