Latest ownCloud webinar teaches businesses how to implement a successful ownCloud proof of concept
Lexington, MA – April 4, 2013 – Fresh from its standing-room-only inaugural webinar ownCloud Inc., the company behind the world’s most popular open source file sync and share software, announced today the 2nd webinar in the series: Implementing a successful ownCloud PoC.
According to recent research, 40-75% of employees are using Dropbox to share files inside and outside of their businesses. Half of those Dropbox users do this even though they know it’s against IT policy. More than 40% of businesses have experienced the exposure of confidential information, where the estimated average cost of a data breach equaled $5.5 Million in 2011.
These files, containing sensitive company and customer data, are stored in a public cloud outside of the businesses’ control – possibly even outside of the country. In most cases, this violates company risk, security and governance policies and procedures, as the potential for data leakage and security breaches is enormous.
ownCloud is fully on-premise file sync and share software that integrates into existing user directories, governance processes, security, monitoring, storage and back-up tools — becoming part of the existing infrastructure. And because ownCloud is open source and open by nature, plug-in apps extend ownCloud out of the box, enabling file versioning, file sharing, external file system mounts and much more. If additional applications or capabilities are needed, enterprises can easily extend ownCloud via an enhanced application plug-in architecture, and add it to their ownCloud server. With more than 850,000 users worldwide, ownCloud offers the ease-of-use, flexibility, sophistication and security not available from basic syncing apps and third-party storage.
The webinar will demonstrate how IT can easily implement, conduct, and measure a successful ownCloud PoC. Attendees will learn how to stand up their very own secure file sync and share server, how to set up and configure the installation, how to scale, how to connect it to enterprise infrastructure, how to connect users to the ownCloud server, and then next steps for ownCloud.
