Sorry for the late notice, but tomorrow I will be opening the DeIC (Danish e-Infrastructure Cooperation) Conference 2014 talking about the dangers of consolidation of data. I’ve spoken about this before — we are heading full speed into a future where a huge piece of the personal information of the world is stored in very few centralized services. This is not what the internet – or even the cloud – was meant for. In fact, quite the opposite.
There are things we can all do to prevent – or at least disrupt – this consolidation. I will discuss these ways, including ownCloud of course, at the conference.
