ownCloud Inc. has just announced the availability of the ownCloud 7 Enterprise Edition. This release introduces Universal File Access, a common file access layer across an organization.
Enterprise and Community Edition
While built from a common core, the Enterprise and Community edition target different audiences. The Community edition releases new features first and includes a wide range of apps like Calendar, Contacts, and Gallery while also providing access to the many apps from the community app store on apps.owncloud.com. This gives enthusiasts a great way to privately share files with friends and family, but also gives organizations a way to see if ownCloud is right for them.
The Enterprise edition brings enterprise-grade stability and foregoes most of the community apps while enhancing integration with Enterprise-only technologies like Sharepoint file storage, Shiboleth authentication and more.
You can find an overview of the major differences in this table or watch a webinar about choosing between the two so you can pick the right edition for your needs.
Introducing Universal File Access
Whether the data resides in applications like SharePoint, Jive, other ownClouds, Dropbox, or even the cloud, ownCloud 7 Enterprise Edition gives employees access to appropriate company files on any device, anytime, from anywhere, all completely managed and controlled by IT — keeping unstructured data where it is — closely managing proprietary information and business risk, while leveraging existing data management, security and governance tools and processes.
