ownCloud Opens Call for Papers for Its 2015 Contributor Conference at TU Berlin,
August 28 – 3 September

Berlin, Germany — 5 May, 2015 — ownCloud Inc., the company behind the world’s most popular open source enterprise file sync and share (EFSS) software, today announced that it has opened it’s Call for Papers for the ownCloud Contributor Conference 2015 which will run from Friday, August 28 to Thursday, September 3 at the Technische Universität Berlin. Registration for the conference is now open and attendees can sign up for free at: https://owncloud.org/conf/.

The annual conference will unite more than 150 ownCloud community members who will refine their technical expertise and share ideas and code over the course of seven days. The conference agenda features an extensive hackathon that lasts until Sept 3. On Saturday and Sunday there will be a series of lightning talks and workshops to share ideas, inspiration and knowledge and welcome new contributors into the ownCloud community. Sessions will focus on the latest trends in open source file sync and share, from coding and design, to testing documentation and translation.

Last year’s conference had 100 attendees from 20 countries. Given that the ownCloud Community has grown significantly in the past twelve months, it is anticipated that there will be at least 150 attendees at this year’s conference. Twenty eight videos of “lightning talks” from last year received more than 2,000 views on YouTube. These sessions covered subjects like our development tools and infrastructure, the state of ownCloud Apps, ownCloud Security, file syncing and much more. Videos of the talks from last year are on the ownCloud YouTube channel. In addition to the short talks, there were several technical workshops on subjects including how to write your first ownCloud app, how to design a great user interface and more.

This year’s conference will feature a mix of short talks in the morning and longer workshops and technical sessions in the afternoon. ownCloud has opened the Call for Papers to all ownCloud contributors. The goal for the conference is to provide perspective on major areas of ownCloud development from Sharing to LDAP, and from the Music app to the Updater. ownCloud Community developers with expertise in PHP, JavaScript, security, UI design, ownCloud API integration or related subjects should consider submitting a lightning talk or workshop.

“We are thrilled to host another Contributor Conference this year,”

said ownCloud CTO Frank Karlitschek.

“The ownCloud community is the source and inspiration for ownCloud and includes an amazing group of individuals. We are privileged to bring together these like-minded enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and insights around ownCloud with one another. At last year’s conference we were able to make great strides in feature/functionality as a result of sharing ideas between community members, and we look forward to doing even more this year. We have some great tech talks lined up and look forward to session proposals from our community members. We expect this year’s Contributor Conference to be even bigger, better, more productive and more fun than ever.”
