ownCloud announces Scality’s Zenko CloudServer, formerly known as Scality S3 Server, as a certified storage backend for ownCloud Server v10.0.9. This certification is inherited by all Scality products leveraging its open source S3-Server API, such as Scality Ring in combination with the Scality Ring S3 Connector.
All ownCloud customers who operate a storage infrastructure, which connects through a Zenko CloudServer API to an ownCloud Server (version 10.0.9 or newer), either as object- or filesystem-based storage, will be also entitled for ownCloud support services for this ownCloud S3 connectivity along their agreed SLAs.
Since the S3 API (Simple Storage Service) service was launched in 2006 by Amazon Web Services, the usage has grown dramatically, driven by EC2 but also by vendors like ownCloud who have enabled their applications to use S3 object storage. ownCloud Server allows to connect S3 API based backend storage systems. Besides its support for Amazon and Ceph /S3 based storage backends, ownCloud now officially adds support for Scality S3 based storage backends, both as primary as well as secondary storage services.
Scality’s Zenko CloudServer is published as an open source product on Github and also the central component of the Scality Ring S3 Connector. ownCloud has tested S3 compatibility between ownCloud Server and Scality’s Zenko CloudServer API. All functional and performance tests have been passed successfully. Furthermore test suites have been added to ownClouds QA processes, so that Zenko CloudServer will be continuously tested and re-certified with any following ownCloud Server releases.
