For those on one of our earlier releases following our release channels, we’ve just made available updates which bring security, stability and minor functionality improvements all over.

Highlights

Improvements common to the three releases include

  • Stop when PHP 7 is used
  • Improve LDAP and Memcached compatibility
  • Switch to debug logging on upgrade

ownCloud 8.0 and 8.1 both also introduce the ability to change the syslog_tag, which makes it possible to track multiple ownCloud instances on a system separately through the system log.

No PHP 7, please!

All three versions receive a change to ensure ownCloud will halt rather than cause problems if used on the unsupported PHP 7. This new, soon-to-be-released major release of the main language ownCloud is built in, brings impressive performance improvements alongside features. However, while ownCloud 8.2 and newer will work with PHP 7, the older ownCloud releases are not supported. Giving an error message, rather than allowing weird and unpredictable problems caused by incompatibility was chosen as the best route.

As always, you can find more details and download information in our changelog.
