ownCloud conference 2016: Pure Awesomeness!
In short:
The ownCloud conference 2016 had more than 150 Visitors and was so far the biggest ownCloud conference ever!
6 Days of talks, discussions, coding, hacking and fun have come to an end. Here is just a brief overview on what went on and some photos to get an impression.
Friday Night: Kickoff
We met at Room77 in vibrant Kreuzberg, for Burgers and Beer and enjoyed a great evening of get together, meeting old friends and making new, and kicked off the conference with chatting and discussing the upcoming Days.
The Weekend
On Saturday and Sunday we had more than 40 talks, Discussions, workshops and last but not least keynotes by Michael Meeks on integrating Collabora and ownCloud, and Cornelius Schumacher on the Freedom of Webservices.Simon Fishley showed how the South African Observatory uses ownCloud with an SAN storage. Klaas Freitag gave an engineering update. All other talks from the Weekend are also available in our Youtube Channel.
On both evenings the attendees enjoyed the great weather and had Dinner at the nearby beergarden Schleusenkrug and took the chance to chat about all kinds of topics around the ownCloud ecosystem.
Ecosystem and marketplace
On Monday we focused on the integration with and of ownCloud in new and existing products. Customers, Partners, and Developers showed their implemantations and integrations of ownCloud. In the morning the Marketplace was introduced. This will enable developers and companies to provide solutions for free, or even sell e.g. support, or the app and or service itsself, in one centralized marketplace.
Join the discussion on the marketplace!
At the end of the Day we had an Fireside Chat with Tobias Gerlinger (CEO) and Holger Dyroff (COO). The Video will also be soon on our youtube channel
Customer Workshop:
In the Customer Workshop we concentrated on large scale installations, open communication, the future of federated sharing and topics around education and research customers that provided insights in their use cases and their vision of the future of their ownCloud implementation.
Note worthy: Jakub Moscicki, Cern : The Outlook of CERNBox. The CERN is a long time customer of ownCloud using our Software to distribute Data (e.g. one run in the Large Hadron Collider collects more than 20 Petabyte of Data), and makes the Data accessible to researchers all around the world.
Peter Szegedi from GÉANT introduced the Up2U Project Proposal – an idea to build a bridge over the gap between secondary schools and higher education and research by better integrating formal and informal learning scenarios and adapting both the technology and the methodology that students will most likely be facing in universities.
In the Afternoon the ownCloud Team and Customers and Partners teamed up for a Barcamp and discussed future improvements.
To make things short:
The ownCloud conference 2016 was the best and biggest ownCloud conference ever!
