GDPR, Education, Framework Accessibility, untouched iPads
GDPR is now in effect for more than 2 years. Yet there still is no clear guidance from data protection commissioners on which platforms, products and services can be safely used or not, says our CEO Tobias Gerlinger.
Digitization in schools has long been seen as an optional extra by many decision makers. In recent months it has become clear how important digital infrastructure is not only in business but also in public institutions. School clouds were hacked, and there is ongoing conflict between data privacy commissioners and the tech giants. We are proud to help schools with going remote safely on the European level as well as in Germany and to provide substantial and long-term solutions instead of band-aid fixes with negative side-effects for students’ privacy.
In the corona crisis, German government agencies are allowed to skip tenders in procuring digital products and services. This favors large US vendors, endangers data sovereignty and harms the domestic IT industry, critics argue.
Working on an iPad? Great news: The ownCloud app now fully supports mouse interaction and a full set of keyboard shortcuts, as the first content collaboration app to deliver these features. This means you can now fully control ownCloud on your iPad with mouse and keyboard, making it a complete laptop replacement (and more accessible, too).
We at ownCloud follow a best-of-breed approach. Instead of developing everything ourselves from scratch, we integrate with established open-source solutions. We currently explore deployments integrating Jitsi and Big Blue Button for video conferencing. Are you interested in being part of a pilot project for integrating video conferencing systems into your ownCloud as part of a Standard or Enterprise subscription? Drop us a line!
