linuxquestions.org is running their yearly Members Choice Awards, and in the brand new category Open Source Cloud Solution of the Year, ownCloud is one of five options!

We’re quite proud to have made it there, being in the company of some other well known, more low-level and corporate-oriented technologies. The various choices already show how ‚cloud‘ is an amorphous term, meaning different things in different situations. Of course, ownCloud is all about putting users back in control of their data, a purpose which is show to be more important every time another spying scandal breaks or a data breach becomes public.

The first release candidate for ownCloud Server 11 is out. This is the release that surfaces breakage: PHP 7 support dropped, deprecated database and group-management classes removed, major version bumps to Doctrine DBAL and Symfony, subadmin disabled by default. Three security fixes underneath.
Do not deploy in production. Do test against your apps and integrations.
