Compare Sync vs ownCloud
Read a full Sync comparison below, and learn how ownCloud enables users to share files and folders within your organization securely. Sync is a cloud-only SaaS file sharing solution from Canada that mainly serves Canadian institutions, small and medium sized companies and consumer market. The data is stored on servers in Canada, which is a member of the five eyes intelligence alliance, together with Australia, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States, so GDPR compliance is questionable when transferring EU citizens user data into Sync.com. Furthermore, Sync.com is closed source so users can’t retrace its inner workings even if they wanted to. With ownCloud, users can audit the source code and see how exactly their data is being processed. ownCloud has its own SaaS offering hosted on secure servers in Germany that fully complies with GDPR.
