ownCloud joins Linux Foundation and Open Invention Network

Both of these moves gives ownCloud visibility into the latest happenings in Cloud, Open Source and more.

Two important announcements this week: ownCloud joined both the Linux Foundation and the Open Invention Network (OIN) recently.

First, the Linux Foundation. Linux and open source technologies are vital to cloud-based computing and the Linux Foundation is a non-profit consortium dedicated to the growth of Linux. As a member of The Linux Foundation we’re able to collaborate with the community to offer a vibrant solution for managing any potential risk associated with cloud-based file sharing services and put control back in IT’s hands. As a former CTO of the Foundation so I know all the great things you do, from education and training to networking. With a business so vested in Linux it was a no-brainer.

Open Invention Network is an intellectual property company that was formed to promote Linux by using patents to create a collaborative environment. It promotes a positive, fertile ecosystem for Linux, which in turns drives innovation and choice in the global marketplace. This helps ensure the continuation of innovation that has benefited software vendors, customers, emerging markets and investors.

OIN’s patents cover areas that include big data and analytics, cloud computing, smart mobile devices and mobile broadband, and social networking, among others. So, you see, joining OIN for the patent protection for open source companies and communities is very important.

Both of these moves gives ownCloud visibility into the latest happenings in Cloud, Open Source and more.
