At the prestigious industry award, which is awarded directly by the readers of Vogel IT-Verlag, the EFSS specialist has secured “Platinum” in the “Enterprise File Sharing” category for the second time. The trade visitors acknowledged the high focus that ownCloud places on guaranteeing maximum security standards in its technology. Second place went to Box. com, Nextcloud took third place. The IT Award is presented in 42 categories by the IT specialist portals BigData-Insider, CloudComputing Insider, DataCenter-Insider, DevInsider, IP-Insider, Security-Insider and Storage-Insider. The award ceremony took place last Thursday 12 October 2017 at the Steigenberger Hotel “Drei Mohren” in Augsburg.
IT security is the topic of the day. This shows not only the high response to the IT security fair “it-sa” in Nuremberg, which came to an end last week, but also the reader vote for this year’s IT awards, which are jointly awarded by the specialist portals of Vogel IT-Verlag. ownCloud won first place in the category “Enterprise Filesharing” as it did last year. The security aspect will become a key decision criterion for companies when modernizing their data infrastructure, especially in view of the EU Data Protection Regulation, which will come into force next year. Solutions such as ownCloud will play an even more important role in the development of efficient and data protection compliant file sharing technologies in the future..
“We see the successful defending of the title as a great confirmation of our efforts to make corporate file sharing even more secure. The decision of the readers thus also underlines our impression of the needs of our customers “, emphasized Harald Weimer, CSO of ownCloud, during the award ceremony.
For the third time in a row, more than 30,000 readers selected this year’s finalists by casting their votes over a period of four and a half months. At the IT Awards, the participating companies compete in 42 categories divided into seven IT specialist portals: BigData Insiders, CloudComputing Insiders, DataCenter Insiders, DevInsiders, IP Insiders, Security Insiders and Storage Insiders. In a pre-selection, the editorial teams of the portals selected up to ten IT companies in each individual category, and the final decision was made by the readers as part of an online voting process.
The decisive factor for the pre-selection was that the nominated companies had “made a name for themselves” in 2016 and 2017 through groundbreaking innovations. Readers could also submit their own suggestions. In each of the 42 categories, the first three places were awarded in platinum, gold and silver. The chief editors of the insider portals selected the final winners on the evening of 12 October 2017 in Augsburg.
