Infinite Scale Press Release

Nuremberg, May 10th 2022 – ownCloud has released the beta version of its new data platform: Infinite Scale. The open-source community is invited to test the innovative solution in detail together with ownCloud and further optimize it.

Infinite Scale by ownCloud is an open-source data platform that enables the integration of various data sources, identity and access management and other infrastructure components. Its goal is to comprehensively manage and work with both data and metadata of an organization as easily as possible.

This is made possible by a new web front-end, the native ownCloud clients and standardized APIs that provide a uniform data access layer across all data. The data sources can be geographically distributed and can be on-premises, in various clouds or in hybrid combinations.

The innovative cloud-native platform is based on a microservices architecture that was implemented with Golang and vue.js at its core on a modern and future-proof technology stack. In the architecture design, particular attention was paid to avoiding complexity and software-based dependencies; for example, Infinite Scale does not require a database, as a result of which, the platform ensures superior robustness, performance and scalability, while at the same time being quick to deploy and easy to operate.

All content collaboration functions planned for the general availability version scheduled for later this year are already included in the current beta version released today. This includes the familiar Web Office integrations and, in particular, the “Spaces” feature already presented in the Tech Preview, a new concept for digital collaboration between project teams in data rooms.

The installation of the software is very simple. In addition to deployment in a Docker container, installation on the user’s own computer is also possible with three simple commands. On request, however, ownCloud also provides free test instances.

The Infinite Scale platform is the company’s second product alongside its well-known secure content collaboration solution ownCloud 10. ownCloud will continue to develop and support the open-source software for secure end-user content collaboration independent of Infinite Scale.

“The launch of the Infinite Scale beta phase after more than two years of focused development is a great moment for us and our community,” said Tobias Gerlinger, CEO of ownCloud. “We’re very excited to continue working very closely with our community to further perfect this innovative data platform together.”

The open-source community is invited to join ownCloud in testing the Infinite Scale platform to identify any remaining bugs and fix them together with the ownCloud developers. ownCloud plans to release a new release every two weeks during the beta phase. Participants in the beta program can automatically receive regular updates via email.

The beta versions are freely available for download. Those who would like to receive regular updates on the latest developments during the Infinite Scale beta phase can sign up for them here: https://owncloud.com/infinite-scale-beta
