ownCloud today announced that it has been newly recognized as one of two European vendors and is the only open-source vendor in Gartner’s 2018 Magic Quadrant for Content Collaboration Platforms (CCP). ownCloud is the largest open-source file sharing platform in the world with 200,000 installations and ver 25 million users.
According to Gartner, “content collaboration platforms can transform how individuals and teams work. Inside or outside organizations, they add structure and insight when collaboration involves unstructured data…By 2022, 50% of midsize and large organizations in mature regional markets will use a content collaboration platform to implement document workflows and improve collaboration and productivity.”

ownCloud was reviewed by end users in the Content Collaboration Platforms (formerly EFSS) market on “Gartner Peer Insights.” With a rating of 4.5 (out of 5) ownCloud was rated highest amongst its major competitors as of July 23, 2018. A senior development manager said in May 2018: “I am responsible for buying infrastructure… and this is the best vendor/company I have dealt with. Love the culture, people, and specially management. Love the dedication and response to the issue.”
An administrator in the media industry said in July 2018: “owncloud stands for high security. There are a lot of cloud-based storages to be found, but if you have to share and handle very sensitive data you should consider to try (sic) it.” A performance Marketing Manager in the media industry said in July 2018: “This tool works very good (sic) and helps our company to distribute files to all colleagues in a few seconds. You have access to these files with all your different devices and wherever you are at the moment.“ A campaign manager in the retail industry said in June 2018: “Mostly when you think of big open source projects like ownCloud you wish for maximum security. We started to work with ownCloud at work as a replacement for Dropbox for that reason. It definitely offers a high amount of security, using SSL and AES.”
