Frankfurt-based investor group leads financing round; Tobias Gerlinger appointed Managing Director and CEO
Nuremberg/Frankfurt, Germany, July 14, 2016 – ownCloud, provider of the world’s most widely used open source software for enterprise file access, secures financing worth millions. A group of investors, led by the Frankfurt entrepreneur Tobias Gerlinger, has injected growth capital and has acquired a majority stake in ownCloud GmbH. The existing customer contracts from ownCloud, Inc., USA, have also been taken over. This means that now ownCloud GmbH will continue to foster customer relations in Germany and around the world and offer and market ownCloud solutions globally.
Tobias Gerlinger is being appointed Managing Director of ownCloud GmbH alongside Holger Dyroff, and, as CEO, will also take on responsibility for Finance, Marketing and Sales. As COO, ownCloud founder, Holger Dyroff, will now be focussing on product strategy and technology.
“Central data management with enterprise-wide secure access to files is now a must for organisations of all sizes and industries. ownCloud offers a superior solution here and one that is characterised by shear stability and scalability. Hundreds of small, medium and large-scale enterprises like Deutsche Bahn already place their trust in ownCloud”, comments Tobias Gerlinger. “Funding also gives ownCloud the opportunity to offer its customers the best product and service in the future as well. As an investor and part of the management team, I am pleased to be able to make a contribution to shaping the future success story of ownCloud.”
“We are delighted to have Tobias Gerlinger on board as an experienced investor and entrepreneur,” states Holger Dyroff. “ownCloud will use the capital raised to continue to develop its leading solution for enterprise file sync & share. In pursuing this goal, we intend to mirror our customer’s wishes and requirements as closely as we did in the past, and exploit the advantage provided by the extreme flexibility of the ownCloud solution.”
Markus Rex, who was also involved in ownCloud as a start-up, is retiring from active management, but will continue to be contribute to ownCloud GmbH by taking a seat on the Advisory Board.
