ownCloud partners with Up2U, GÉANT, CERN and many more to provide cloud solution for European schools.
Millions of students are currently stuck at home because of the Covid-19 Pandemic. As parents struggle to work from home with children around full time, teachers struggle with getting assignments to students without exceeding their email attachment limit.
To help, education infrastructure providers in the public sector step up and make their resources for easy and secure communication and data sharing available. Up2University, a project mandated by the European Commission and coordinated by GÉANT, presents openUp2U, a remote learning platform available to all schools and universities in Europe to support continued learning. It features Moodle as a course management system, eduMeet for video conferencing, SWAN as a digital notebook platform and the ownCloud based CERNBox to store and share files.
- Moodle – a course management system based on a free open source software package designed to help educators create effective online courses.
- eduMEET – an open source web-based video-conferencing platform developed in the GÉANT (GN4-3) Project, that provides a self-hosted, secure and trustworthy environment for distance learning. eduMEET is currently in Beta stage.
- SWAN – a turn-key platform to produce digital notebooks to be created in a simple web interface – with text, code, pictures and video – that can be stored in CERNBox.
- CERNBox powered by EOS and ownCloud – the Sync and Share storage solution for Science, that allows students and teachers to work and collaborate anytime and anywhere from their mobile devices.
ownCloud is proud to be a reliable and productive partner to the research and education communities. As the leading open-source software for file sync and share, we champion open and distributed networks and secure infrastructure without the safety risks that proprietary software entails. Renowned institutions like CERN and the pan-European research network GÉANT rely on ownCloud for safe and fast data sharing.
