I’ve been doing software development for more years than I want to tell you and yet, every time we give birth to another product I go through the same phases of software development.

First: We can rule the world

Second: Panic, how can we get this done in time?

Third: Denial, this stuff is really coming together very nicely

Fourth: Panic, how can we get this done in time?

Fifth: Acceptance, we’re doomed, no way can we get this done in time

Sixth: Shock, wow, this stuff really is coming together nicely

Seventh: Panic, how can we get this done in time?

Eighth: Exhaustion (speaks for itself)

And lastly, ninth: Relief, we really can rule the world

What a great team here at ownCloud, delivering once again an amazing product that solves a real need in the market. What’s new? Well we tightened up a lot of things, made ownCloud faster, capable of handling much more – and bigger – data, and giving IT even greater control over their data. In addition, we added:

  • Oracle Support: Use Oracle as the database back-end for ownCloud.
  • Logging module: Extensive logging of file-related actions, logs, who accessed what, when and from where. This assures the ability to audit the system.
  • Dynamic user storage: Route users to the storage appropriate for their role and need – no more one-size-fits-all storage.

And a big thanks to Frank and his team, as well as the amazing community that supports ownCloud – we couldn’t do it without you.

oCIS 8.1.0 introduces MFA-gated vault storage as an isolated storage plane: its own provider ID, no public or federated sharing path, MFA propagated end to end, and a UI that makes the distinction obvious. Plus a public-share access control fix and roughly 60 other changes across indexing, LDAP, and connection recovery.
