Today we announced some very exciting news. The Indian government has chosen ownCloud to be part of the DigiLocker Project!

digilockerThe idea behind DigiLocker is to provide every Indian citizen with a safe, digital storage space for all of their personal documents in the form of signed PDF files—birth certificates, drivers licenses, passports, etc. They are also allowed to add documents themselves to keep up-to-date. ownCloud was chosen for our File Access solution, which plays a major role in the architecture of the project. This means that the users can access their files from and device, including an Android App available in the Google Play Store.

Since deploying in July 2015, over 2 million Indians have connected to DigiLocker and the database holds almost 42 million documents! And over the next two years the government is hoping that at least 50 million citizens will connect. That is 50 million people using this ownCloud based project! Once the users are registered they have instant access to all the benefits ownCloud has to offer.

We could not be more proud to work with the Indian government and look forward to a long relationship.

Years of contribution history preserved, everything moved into a single home. This is what the OSPO relicensing programme looks like when it reaches the core product.

Missing alt text is one of the most commonly flagged WCAG failures. EN 301 549 mandates it for public sector ICT across Europe. As of today, oCIS ships an extension that generates a credible first draft with your configured vision LLM, lets the user edit it, and writes it back to the file as a WebDAV property that survives the session. A meaningful compliance tool, not just a convenience feature.
