With ownCloud Infinite Scale we are modernizing ownCloud as you know it from the ground up based on the programming language Go. While PHP has long been the tool of choice for ownCloud, it no longer meets our requirements for developing a modern content collaboration application. Learn more about this change.
Key players in the open-source sphere are already working on integrating ownCloud Infinite Scale into their software. For example, ONLYOFFICE is working on a custom integration, allowing its existing customers that use ownCloud to swiftly migrate to ownCloud Infinite Scale upon its release. A powerful open-source online editor for text documents, tables and presentations, ONLYOFFICE is a great component for any organization’s sovereign workspace.
Just as ONLYOFFICE, open-source salesforce alternative Crust integrates the upcoming ownCloud Infinite Scale, both into its CRM and its low-code platform. This means that infinite scale soon also enables the administration of infinite sales. For organizations, this integration makes the set up of their comprehensive sovereign workspace even more straightforward by minimizing the required integration work when connecting ownCloud and the CRM. The integration of the Crust low-code platform with ownCloud Infinite Scale helps speed up custom development projects and enables swift prototyping. The crust low-code platform uses Go and Vue.js, just like ownCloud Infinite Scale.
To make compliance easier for our enterprise customers, we officially released the owncloud File Lifecycle Management enterprise extension. It makes compliance with data protection regulation easier and helps save storage space. It enables organizations to automate the rules-based archiving and deleting of files that have outlived their usefulness.
Back in July, the legal basis for transferring personal data from the EU to the U.S. went up in smoke with the ECJ’s Privacy Shield ruling. This still preoccupies many organizations that process user data. Read which options organizations have now to ensure GDPR compliance.
One of the easiest ways to set up your very own ownCloud is by running it as a virtual machine appliance. This only entails installing a virtualization software, downloading the appliance image and running it. Read our step-by-step guide on how to get started with the ownCloud appliance.
The personal take of the month, by Patrick Maier, Product Manager
These are exciting times: as we get ownCloud Infinite Scale ready for its first deployments at our development partners, I want to reflect on where we are headed. Our goal is best summarized in the vision of a user-friendly sovereign workspace that is robust and reliable and offers infinite scale as well as performance. The dexterous development path taken by our engineers has, in collaboration with our development partners in building the core, brought great results in every one of those departments. I am also thankful for the integrations that our peers in the open-source world build, or are planning to build for our new ownCloud, programmed in Go. They are critical, since our best-of-breed approach means that we want to delegate each task to the software best suited to fulfill it. In the end, we want to present not just a new ownCloud, but an entire ecosystem of infinitely scalable functionalities. With it, we are among the first companies to deliver cloud-native software to on-premises users. Through extensions and APIs, it allows you to deploy your very own, customized sovereign workspace based on ownCloud Infinite Scale.
