Talking face to face about the way ahead

In early fall, we spoke with clients, users, operators and contributors about the ownCloud roadmap - for example at the ownCloud Conference, at it-sa and at Gitex
The ownClouders enjoyed talking to customers, partners and their colleagues face-to-face once again

In a particularly eventful early autumn at ownCloud, we held the ownCloud Conference 2021, launched our new Community Program and presented our approach to secure collaboration at the it-sa IT Security trade fair in Nuremberg and at Gitex in Dubai. All those events serve the purpose of explaining what ownCloud is in the process of transforming into.

The ownCloud Conference

At the ownCloud Conference on September 27th and 28th, we explained the roadmap for ownCloud Infinite Scale and ownCloud Classic. Reliability, interoperability and a smooth transition toward the new cloud-native platform are in the center of all of our determinations. You can watch all the events from the fully virtual ownCloud Conference 2021 right here.

What’s new regarding our community outreach?

As part of the ownCloud Conference, our Community Manager Katrin Giza unveiled the new ownCloud Community Program. The intention is to thank the ownCloud community contributors and to strengthen the relationships within our community. It consists of two things: The ownCloud Professional Community Program and the ownCloud Community Contributor Initiative. To learn more, read the announcement or watch Katrin’s presentation at the ownCloud Conference 2021.

The it-sa IT Security Expo

After a virtual installment in 2020, [the it-sa IT Security trade fair was held once again in face-to-face mode](https://owncloud.com/news/face-to-face-at-it-sa-2021/). As it is just a few miles from the ownCloud headquarters, we showed up there with a lot of staff to catch up with peers, partners and customers. Not going to lie: It was a welcome change after those nearly two years of mostly virtual meetings. Even though the halls were not as full as before the pandemic and the visitors not as numerous, we had plenty of visits at our booth and exciting exchanges with people keen on a more secure, more capable remote collaboration setup.

ownCloud at Gitex 2021

Though a few miles farther away, we also visited Dubai’s Gitex Tech Week, the gulf region’s biggest technology exhibition. We had a lot of good talks about secure and sovereign collaboration and ownCloud’s role in making it happen.

New Partnerships

We are happy to announce that we recently signed a partnership agreement with decentralized cloud specialist ThreeFold. The first step in the partnership is the launch of the ownCloud instance on the ThreeFold Grid – demoed live at ownCloud Conference 2021. We also welcome Adfinis into our partner program. As a channel partner and service provider, Adfinis helps its clients on their journey towards efficient and secure collaboration, encompassing consulting, planning, technical integration and operations.

ownCloud Infinite Scale 8.1.0: MFA-Gated Vault Storage Arrives

oCIS 8.1.0 introduces MFA-gated vault storage as an isolated storage plane: its own provider ID, no public or federated sharing path, MFA propagated end to end, and a UI that makes the distinction obvious. Plus a public-share access control fix and roughly 60 other changes across indexing, LDAP, and connection recovery.
